MENOPAUSE CLINIC HELPED ME GET MY LIFE BACK ON TRACK

Anxiety, depression, lethargy and a general lack of interest in life were all symptoms that Kim Jacob suffered for many years as a result of the menopause.

The mum of two started experiencing symptoms 10 years ago, but thought it may be down to a stressful period at work. It was only when Kim saw a specialist menopause doctor at the Online Menopause Centre (www.onlinemenopausecentre.com) – the first online menopause clinic in the UK – that she finally received treatment that helped her return to normal.

Said Kim, who lives in South London: “I literally had every symptom going bar hot flushes – I had all the mental impact of the menopause which had a huge physical impact on my life because I was so lethargic and had no interest in anything.

“I tried my GP but they just wanted to prescribe anti-depressants, but that wouldn’t address the cause of the problem. I decided to do research into doctors who understand the menopause and could offer specialist treatment and that’s how I heard about the Online Menopause Centre.

“I don’t really like going to the doctors or hospitals so being able to have an online consultation was ideal for me – it’s much more private and relaxed – and being able to see someone who is an expert in treating the menopause makes a huge difference.”

The Online Menopause Centre (OMC) provides virtual video consultations and individually tailored treatment plans to menopausal and perimenopausal women. It was founded by women’s health and menopause expert Dr Laila Kaikavoosi, who has several years’ experience treating and helping women suffering from the menopause and menopause related conditions.

Kim was diagnosed as being deficient in several hormones – DHEA, estrogen, testosterone and progesterone – and was prescribed a treatment plan that helped her manage her symptoms.

Said Kim: “I started biologically identical hormone replacement therapy, which is better tolerated than older forms of synthetic HRT. I felt like a completely different person mentally – I could relax more and deal with stressful situations much better. I also got my confidence back.

“I had had biologically identical hormones several years ago from a clinic in Chelsea when my symptoms started. They worked but I had to stop taking them because they were very expensive. Seeing Dr Laila from the Online Menopause Centre was the best thing because it makes bioidentical hormones affordable and it’s also very flexible – you don’t have to go to a Chelsea or Mayfair clinic, which can be costly. You can also access the service wherever you live in the UK.

“I felt very at ease talking about my symptoms with Dr Laila – I felt she was more understanding than other doctors I had seen. She is also incredibly experienced in treating the menopause.”

Around 13 million women in the UK are currently peri or menopausal – equivalent to a third of the entire female population[1] – and its impact can be severely debilitating. Symptoms range from hot flushes/night sweats, headaches, sleep problems and joint pains to anxiety, poor memory, low self-confidence and loss of libido.
