OMC Menopause Cafe (June 2022) – Menopause and Dementia

OMC’s Menopause Cafe on Fri 28th June with Dr Kaikavoosi covered the links between Menopause, hormones, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD)

Worldwide there are 55 million people who are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or dementia and two thirds are female. It results in loss of memory and significantly reduces quality of life.

Recent evidence shows that our hormones, especially oestrogen, play a significant role in the sex difference in incidence of AD and that hormone therapy can reduce the risk of AD and dementia.

With that in mind, we dedicated June’s Menopause Cafe to Dementia and Menopause to help shed some light on this area of menopause and answer your burning questions.

Hosted by Dr Laila Kaikavoosi, this Cafe covered the key facts relating to (peri)menopause, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Dementia and the factors to consider:

  • Definitions of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Dementia
  • What causes AD and the links with (peri)menopause
  • How optimising hormone levels can help the prevention of AD
  • What measures can be taken to reduce the risk of developing AD
  • Lifestyle modifications including exercise, diet, stress and sleep

OMC’s Menopause Cafes are open and free to attend for all OMC Patients, friends, and family but numbers are capped at 50 so please register early to avoid disappointment.
