I often get asked about the benefits of supplements and whether or not they should be taken.

Here’s a very brief overview of some of the more commonly used supplements and their main benefits:

Magnesium

Magnesium-supports sleep, the nervous system and improves energy levels

B Complex Vitamins

B complex vitamins- supports hormone balance, supports healthy skin, hair and nail and improves energy levels

Omega 3

Omega-3- supports hormone balance, healthy blood sugar levels, healthy skin, mood and cardiovascular health and reduces inflammation

Chromium Picolinate

Chromium picolinate- supports healthy blood sugar levels

Phosphatidylserine

Phosphatidylserine- supports brain health, reduces cortisol levels

Vitamin D

Vitamin D- supports bone health and hormone health

There’s no doubt that there are many more essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals each with their unique benefits.

A well-balanced diet can deliver most of these but with age and fluctuations in hormones as well as emergence of some conditions it may become harder to achieve optimal levels of these through diet alone.

If you know that you are deficient in certain vitamins and minerals or would like to find out more about them, I recommend seeing a professional Naturopath/ Herbalist who can give you precise advise after finding out what exactly you may need rather than trying to choose one or two supplements amongst the enormous variety and dosages available over the counter.

For best outcomes, always choose professional and up to date advise.
