October's Menopause Café - Building Men's Awareness of Menopause
Thursday 27th October (3-4pm) - Dr Laila Kaikavoosi
OMC Menopause Cafe - Thursday 27th October (1-2pm)
Recent research conducted by OMC in autumn 2022 revealed that millions of men are unaware of the debilitating impact the menopause and perimenopause can have on women and their daily lives.
In our study, 59% did not know what perimenopause – the period leading up to menopause which can be severe – was and 1 in 10 wrongly believed symptoms such as diarrhoea and hearing loss were menopausal symptoms. Those questioned were also unsure of the causes of menopause, with only a third correctly knowing it was due to a drop in hormones.
With the research hot off the press, October’s Menopause Cafe is focused on building men’s awareness of (peri)menopause symptoms and the impact they can have on women’s home and work lives.
Hosted by Dr Laila Kaikavoosi, this Cafe will cover the key points relating to (peri)menopause and patients and friends of OMC are invited to bring their partners and husbands to the Cafe:
- Definitions of Perimenopause and Menopause
- Key facts and figures
- Common signs and symptoms – physical and psychological
- Menopause Myth Busting – Menopause and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
- The impact (Peri)menopause can have at work and home
- How wives & partners can be supported
OMC’s Menopause Cafe is open and free to attend for all OMC Patients, friends, and family but numbers are capped at 50 so please register early to avoid disappointment.
